Brands sees bad luck

19th May, Brands Hatch – The third and final race of the last UK round of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship saw bad luck appear for the Fortec team. With various drive-through penalties and on track incidents the race was full of action. The race winner Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) was later excluded seeing Josh Hill finish thirteenth, with Felix Serralles and Pipo Derani in sixteenth and seventeenth respectively.

The start of the race saw a great start for Hill, Serralles and Derani as they powered off the start line. As Serralles and Derani made up places on the grid Hill remained in eighth, once again finding himself on the tail of King. Just as the Fortec three were progressing through the field Serralles was issued a drive-through penalty as stweards deemed him to have jumped the start, seeing him fall down the order to 23rd.

A error made by Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam),  who hit the kerbstones coming out of Paddock Hill Bend and got stuck out on track, saw a brief safety car period and the order bunch up.

At the restart eleven drivers, including Hill and Derani, were called in for a drive-through penalty due to having been too fast under the yellow flags. As the race continued Hill, Derani and Serralles continued to push, improving their lap times and consistently gaining pace. However with traffic and not much time left on the clock Hill reached the finish in fourteenth, Serralles in seventeenth and Derani in eighteenth. All drivers moved up one position after the race winner was excluded.
