10 Oct Fortec drivers announced as McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award finalists for third year in a row
10th October 2013 – This years finalists for the McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award have been revealed and Fortec Motorsports are pleased to announce that, for the third year in a row, two of their drivers have been shortlisted for the prestigious award.
Formula Renault NEC front runners Matt Parry and Jack Aitken, along with four other top racers, have both been selected as Award finalists and will be assessed in Formula 2, DTM Mercedes and McLaren GT3 machinery later this month at Silverstone.
The winner, who will be revealed at the AUTOSPORT Awards in December, will receive £100,000, a McLaren F1 test drive, full BRDC membership, and an Arai GP-6 RC carbon helmet.
2011 saw Formula Renault UK Fortec drivers Alex Lynn and Oliver Rowland both nominated, with Rowland going on to win the Award. Fortec’s success was then repeated last year in 2012 with then Fomula Renault NEC racers Jake Dennis and Josh Hill both up for the award.
Dennis was named the 24th winner of the McLaren Autosport award. Speaking about last year’s win he said:
“Winning the McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award was obviously an amazing feeling. To get nominated was great, then to go and win it was extra special – especially as it was a Racing Steps Foundation and Fortec double!
“As for advice for Matt and Jack it would be drive as fast as possible, take risks and whatever you do don’t crash!”
Fortec boss Jamie Dye commented:
“I am again really proud at the success of the Formula Renault NEC team and would like to thank the Racing Steps Foundation and all parties involved. This is the third year our boys have been nominated and we are extremely pleased for Jack and Matt.”
This is the third year Fortec have had two drivers nominated – however James Calado and Tom Blomqvist have both been nominated when racing for Fortec, making it five consecutive years of Award entrants for the team.
