Fortec lead championship in season opener!

The season got off to a great start with a Fortec one-two at Motorland, Aragon on Saturday. Fortec drivers Oliver Rowland and Jazeman Jafaar began the race in second and third respectively, and kept their pace throughout the race.

The aggressive charge between team mates van Buuren and Vaxiviere on the outside and Rowland on the apex produced a daring close three wide dice. Van Buuren exited the corner in the lead, while Vaxiviere dropped to fifth place. Rowland and Jaafar continued on to push forward.

After having led the race throughout, Lotus driver van Bureen was penalised twenty seconds for a jump start. This enabled Rowland and Jaafar to progress up into first and second position.

The second race of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship endured intensifying rain, which posed a challenge for the drivers. After starting the race in third, and Jaafar in fourth, Rowland survived a minor off-track excursion at turn 5 on the opening lap before falling visibility led to a red flag after just five laps.

After a restart under the safety car, the race went green on the seventh lap in which the Fortec pair continued to push ahead in still unpleasant conditions. Lap 12 saw Rowland fly into the pits to complete his mandatory tyre change, whereby the choice of continued wet tyres race was made.

Rowland, after a challenging race, made the podium in third while Malaysian driver, Jaafar finished in eighth.
These results have meant Fortec are now leading the championship.
