Gill finishes fourth in championship

The Protyre Formula Renault headed to Silverstone this weekend for the final round of the championship. Fortec racer Alex Gill had a great weekend, despite bad luck in race two, and took fourth overall in the championship; a fantastic feat for the British driver who is in his maiden year of car racing.

After a troublesome start Gill took home a sixth place finish in race one. Feeling positive for race two the young racer unfortunately suffered bad luck during an incident in race two resulting in pitting for a new nose cone. After a brief pit stop Gill was soon back out on track, crossing the line in fifth.

Reflecting on his race weekend Gill said: “I struggled during testing with trying to find the set-up I was comfortable with. For race one I started p6 but due to my mistake I stalled. I fought my way back through the field to finish 6th. My times were pretty close to the leaders so the changed we had made from qualifying had worked well.

In race two I got away from the line but on lap 4 I went for a move to get closer to the leaders but I ended up colliding with another driver, damaging my car. I came in to the pits and when I went out again the times were good again. Not the best end to my season but I’ve had some great results to say it’s my first year in cars. Thank you to everyone at Fortec!”
