01 Jun Igor Walilko ready to battle in France
Igor Walilko is set to take part in the third round of the Euroformula Open series this weekend. The Polish driver aims for two solid results on the Paul Ricard circuit in France, where he raced already last year and in the preseason.
Eighth in the overall standings after his first two outings with the new squad, Fortec Motorsports, the young Pole raced on the French Riviera already last year, in his rookie season in a Formula 3 car. The 18-year-old from Zielona Gora had also tested on the Paul Ricard circuit near Marseille in February, setting competitive times both on the dry and wet.
After a difficult start to the season following the last moment change of teams, Walilko aims to up the pace in France and challenge the front runners again after netting two podiums in his rookie season last year. The Euroformula Open drivers will take to the track for three practice sessions on Friday with race one on Saturday at 3:15 PM CET and race two on Sunday at 1:15 PM CET. Live coverage of both races at EFO’s official YouTube channel.
“I claimed two points scoring results last time out in Belgium and gathered a lot of valuable data for my new team but my goals for this year are a lot higher. We want to fight at the front and that’s the plan for this weekend. Paul Ricard is an interesting and picturesque circuit. You can get a bit lost at first due to its trademark asphalt run-offs, but I enjoyed my time there last year. I was fast there also in the preseason testing so I’m starting the weekend confident and determined to fight at the front. I know we also need to take full advantage of both qualifying sessions to start from the front and avoid any potential chaos and I’m focused on that too. After the weekend in Belgium the team pretty much rebuilt the car from the ground up and I know that if everything goes well we can be fighting for the podiums on a regular basis. That’s our target.”
