05 Sep Manuel Maldonado steps up to the Euroformula Open Championship
The young Venezuelan will advance to the prestigious Euroformula Championship for the remaining rounds participating at Silverstone this coming weekend, then onto Barcelona and Monza.
After a consistent season in the BRDC Formula 3 championship Manuel has stepped onto the podium 4 times this year, while taking the top step at the last round at Silverstone. Remaining with the Daventry based squad Fortec Motorsports, it was an easy choice to step up to Fortec’s Euroformula team and partner up with Calan Williams, who has showed great progress over the last couple of seasons.
The South American, cousin of ex – F1 star Pastor Maldonado, is hoping to make his mark on the championship and showcase his talents in front of a wider audience. Manuel is keen to get out on the European circuits and can’t wait to get to grips with the Dallara F317 this weekend.
Fortec Owner Richard Dutton said:
“I am delighted to have Manuel join our Euroformula Open team for the remaining season. After 3 strong years with Manuel it was the obvious step to progress up to the Euroformula Team and we are excited to watch his development”.
Manuel Maldonado added
“I am excited to step up to the Euroformula Open Championship for the remaining rounds, I believe it’s time for a new challenge and it couldn’t be a better time to make my debut at Silverstone which for me is home away from home. I am happy with the team and their support they have given me over the past years and I look forward to the following rounds and preparing myself for next year”.
