Parry tops the times at Hockenheim

6th April, Hockenheim – The first qualifying session of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup in Hockenheim saw eighteen-year-old Fortec driver Matt Parry top the times. The young driver took double pole position for the first two races of the season – out of the 38 entrants competing in this year’s championship.

At a dry Hockenheim the huge 38-car grid, featuring ten Fortec entries, got their first qualifying session underway with a great start. Parry, 2012 Intersteps champion, set a series of flying laps before taking the top spot by 14/100ths of a second.

Parry’s team-mates also had a strong qualifying session and will all start this afternoon’s race in competitive positions. Jake Dennis, last year’s NEC champion, returned to the NEC with Fortec for this round, qualifying P2. Jack Aitken was the next top Fortec qualifier taking P4 whilst Mikko Pakari was P5, Shaahan Engineer P7, Ed Jones was P14, Ryan Tveter P16, Alfonso Celis P17 and Roman Beregech P36.

Parry, as a lead driver for the Caterham Racing Academy, has given plenty of warning in his likely results as he lead the way at the official NEC practice sessions in Assen and Hockenheim.

Delighted with his qualifying results and looking ahead to the first race, Parry commented:

“I’m really pleased to be leading the pack at the first race of the season, especially given the strength of the field. I’m aiming to convert this into my first race win in my first Formula Renault race. That really would be an achievement!”
