Ross Martin to compete in 2016 MSA Formula Championship with Fortec Motorsport

As his prize for winning the 2015 Super FKS Championship it was confirmed this weekend at the Autosport International Show Birmingham NEC that Ross Martin will receive a fully funded season in the MSA Formula Championship with renowned single seater team Fortec Motorsport, courtesy of Formula Kart Stars.

Ross won seven out of the first eight rounds in FKS last season which helped him wrap up the title before the last round at Glan-Y-Gors.

Immediately following his FKS Championship campaign Ross undertook a number of tests in selected Single Seater championships with various teams before it was agreed by Formula Kart Stars that Ross would join Fortec Motorsport in the 2016 MSA Formula Championship.

MSA Formula, powered by Ford EcoBoost and certified by the FIA, is part of the hugely successful British Touring Car Championship and enjoys live TV coverage on ITV 4, helping to ensure that Ross continues to build on his media profile gained from the Sky Sports F1 coverage he benefited from in Formula Kart Stars. This coupled with Fortec Motorsport being renowned as one of the most successful Single Seater teams, having launched the careers of drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo, Heikki Kovalainen and Marcus Ericsson, presents the very best opportunity for Ross to progress his racing career.

Commenting on the announcement Ross Martin said: “I feel very grateful with the opportunity that FKS have given me for 2016. I’m very excited to be running with Fortec Motorsport, knowing they’re one of the best teams on the grid, I’m confident of podiums and hopefully wins later in the season. I have a busy testing schedule between now and Brands Hatch (Round 1) so I will be going in as prepared as anyone on the grid. All season I’ve known this was the prize (a fully season in single seaters) and it was for that reason I chose FKS over any other championship last year. I’d fully recommend anyone out there looking to move into cars to compete in FKS, it’s certainly the best prize I’ve seen in British Motorsport for the last 10 years!”

Speaking at the show Jamie Dye Fortec Managing Director added: “We are very pleased to finally get the agreement all signed off and look forward to working more closely with Ross. He clearly showed his karting skills and impressed us on his winter testing performances. A young talent to watch for sure, and we are all looking forward to working together in 2016”

Carolynn Hoy, FKS Chairman: “Ross is clearly a talented driver and we are very proud to have him as our first Super FKS Champion, and with it the first to receive the fully funded Single Seater drive. Fortec are a very prestigious team and I am sure he will do them, FKS and himself proud this season.”

Sam Roach, Ford MSA Championship Manager: “The Ford MSA Formula is delighted to welcome a driver of Ross Martin’s calibre to the Championship. With his FKS karting pedigree, he’s sure to be a front runner from the outset. We are also particularly pleased to have established a partnership between FKS and the Ford MSA Formula that we believe will benefit the development and careers of young drivers for many years to come.”

With the 2016 Formula Kart Stars Championship kicking off at Buckmore Park on the 8-10th April, drivers will be competing to follow in Ross’ footsteps over an expended 18 round Championship contested over 8 weekends and covered once again by Sky Sports F1 HD.
