14 Sep Rowland takes the win while Jaafar returns to the podium
Controlling the race from the start, Oliver Rowland led to victory at the first of this weekend’s race at Nurburgring. Jazeman Jaafar, having started in sixth, quickly went on to progress to third.
On lap nine, the safety car was called into service to allow for the removal of the cars of Latifi, who spun off the track while trying to overtake Celis, and Bonifacio, who also came to a stop in the gravel trap. On the restart, Rowland maintained his advantage from Nyck de Vries, before increasing his lead.
Rowland went on to take on another victory while becoming the only driver to have won eight times in the category. Jaafar crossed the line in an impressive third place after defending from Vaxiviere until the end.
Sunday’s race saw Rowland on pole for the second time this weekend and fifth of the year while Jaafar started eleventh on the grid.
The race got off to an unfortunate start as Rowland spun out of turn one on the opening lap while Jaafar was unable to start the race. Having fallen down the order into eighteenth, Rowland began to climb his way back up in to tenth after just three laps.
After a brief safety car period after Panis stopped on turn one, Rowland entered the pits for the compulsory stop from third. In the remaining laps, Rowland began progress up through the order before overtaking in the final lap to claim 1 point for his tenth place finish.
